Poached Creative was a social enterprise communications agency. We put creative communications jobs within reach for marginalised people, who worked and trained with us.

How we did it

Poached Creative was a social enterprise and Community Interest Company (CIC) formed in April 2009 to provide a chance for marginalised people to improve their confidence, gain marketable skills, and build their portfolio in a professional creative business. 

Our staff, trainees and volunteers included people who had experienced homelessness, addiction, mental health difficulties and physical disabilities.

Jessica Smith started the company to bridge the gap in experience and confidence that stops many talented but marginalised people from finding meaningful work. We offered free six-week communications training to marginalised groups with ongoing work experience and paid work opportunities.

All our trainees gained skills and confidence or feel valued as a result of working with us and more than 70 per cent go on to paid work, volunteering or further training. Read our trainee stories.
